Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring involves wearing a small, portable device that automatically checks blood pressure at set intervals over a 24-hour period, including during sleep. Because it captures readings throughout normal daily activity, it can offer a fuller picture than a single reading taken during an office visit.

What It Helps Evaluate

  • Suspected high blood pressure — useful when office readings vary or seem inconsistent with symptoms.
  • White coat effects — helps distinguish true hypertension from blood pressure that rises only in clinical settings.
  • Nighttime patterns — shows whether blood pressure dips normally during sleep, an important factor in overall cardiovascular health.

How It Fits Into Your Care

Results from ambulatory monitoring can help guide decisions around ongoing high blood pressure treatment and are often reviewed alongside other preventive screenings, such as an EKG, to support a complete view of heart health. Continuous monitoring gives our team more detailed information to work with when adjusting or confirming a treatment plan.

Getting Started

If your physician recommends ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, you'll be fitted with the device in our office and given simple instructions for wearing it during your normal routine before returning it for review.
